CONDEMNATION OF THE VIOLENT ATTACK ON NDC CAMPAIGN RALLY ON SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER, 2026: A DANGEROUS SEED THAT MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO GERMINATE IN ENUGU STATE
PRESS STATEMENT

The Chairman of the Coalition of Enugu State Political Party Youth Leaders_ a body comprising youth leaders of all registered political parties in Enugu State,, Comrade Okey Cosmos Reality, who’s is also Youth Leaders, and Youth leader of Social Democratic Party SDP had said he received with rude shock, deep pain and total condemnation the unprovoked, barbaric and cowardly attack on the campaign rally of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, 10th October, 2026.
I condemn in its entirety this act of political intolerance, thuggery and violence against an opposition political party exercising its constitutional right to campaign and canvass for votes as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.
For me, this attack is not just an attack on NDC. It is an attack on democracy itself. It is an attack on Enugu State. It is an attack on all of us who believe in peace, freedom of choice, and divergent opinions.
I want to warn us today. If we allow this ugly trend to continue unchecked, Enugu State, which is known as a peaceful State, might become another State known for political violence, thuggery and bloodshed. I must not allow that to happen. We must not allow Enugu to descend into anarchy.
I am therefore calling on all Community Leaders, Paramount Rulers, Igwes, Presidents-General of Town Unions, Church Leaders, Market Leaders, and all men and women of good conscience to immediately rise and caution their youths.
I want them to tell their youths that whatever destruction and evil seed that is sown today because of immediate financial benefit or political favour will have a damnable and destructive future for everybody. No one will be spared tomorrow.
He cited two clear instances: Sudan and the North-East of Nigeria. Look at how insecure those societies have become today. What is today known as Boko Haram, Banditry and uncontrollable insecurity started the exact way it is now trying to start in Enugu State – with political thugs armed and empowered by politicians for political advantage. Today, those thugs have become monsters that no one, not even their sponsors, can control.
I say, we must not plant that seed in Enugu State.
The chairman went further to say that, he is particularly calling on the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Enugu State Chapter, to immediately come out and explain its position in the ongoing abuse and desecration of democracy in Enugu State.
IPAC is supposed to be the umbrella body and the moral voice of all political parties. IPAC cannot afford to be silent when one of its own is being attacked and brutalized. Silence in the face of tyranny is conspiracy.
I ask IPAC: Where are they? Why are they silent when democracy is being raped in Enugu State? The people of Enugu State are watching to hear your position. You must speak now to condemn this act without political diplomacy, or history will record that you failed when it mattered most.

Comrade Okey also call on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to stand up for the defence of the people. In my understanding, the NLC was not built only for workers’ welfare, but was built for the general society to promote peace, harmony, justice and democratic tenets. At a time like this when democracy is threatened, I expect the NLC to stand up to defend what is expected to be democratic tenets and condemn this attack.
Finally, I call on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, to as a matter of urgency, summon the security chiefs in the State and instruct them to deal decisively with any individual or group of persons perpetrating such acts.
Your Excellency, your direct warning and action will go a long way to serve as a clear distance from what is currently happening. This is necessary because most of these thugs perpetrating these acts are doing so in order to portray themselves as strong supporters of your campaign and administration, but in other words, they are dragging your good name and your administration to the mud.
I appeal to you, Your Excellency, to immediately swing into security action the same way you stood up with strong momentum to condemn and stop the Monday sit-at-home in Enugu State. I urge you to gather that same momentum, will and strength to also charge the security chiefs to turn all their anger and weaponry against any group of persons perpetrating political violence.
Enugu State must remain peaceful. Democracy must thrive on the ground of various views, divergent opinions and freedom of choice. No one has monopoly of violence.
Enough is Enough.
